Red Bull Could Pull Off the Biggest Troll Move in F1 History This Week

Red Bull have announced some upgrades are coming to their already dominant RB19 vehicles ahead of this weekends Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. Did they say what those upgrades would be? No they did not. So naturally, my mind started to wonder: What could they possibly need to improve? And why not just tell us?

One possible explanation? They're about to troll Mercedes and Toto Wolff harder than anyone in F1 history. How you ask? By showing up on Friday mornings practice session with NO side pods.

Before I get into this, do I believe it will actually happen? No. But the thought of it is too much to pass on exploring.

For those not familiar, Mercedes rolled into Bahrain for the 2022 season after the implementation of new regulations hoping to continue their streak of dominance from the years prior. Instead, their "side pod-less" W13 car was an absolute stinker - something they neglected to address until just last week (Over a year later) when they showed up to Monaco with "wide pods" (my term for their extra wide side pods).

Whether the change will turn into wins for Mercedes and their W14 cars remains to be seen, but it seems like a step in the right direction of catching up to Red Bull before 2026 when the regulations change again.

That's what we don't know. What we DO know is how fierce the rivalry is between Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner and Mercedes Principal Toto Wolff. That is no secret. So what better way to really rub their dominance in Mercedes' face than showing up on Friday morning with Merc's old setup, showing them it CAN be done, and STILL finishing ahead of them on the time sheet?

Again, this is quite unpractical and it's not going to happen - but just imagine if it did?!
